The Forestry career at Universidad de Chile presents the following curriculum:
The plan consists of ten semester, being the first nine equivalents to the Bachelor's degree, that is, to subjects and summer practices, the last semester is the period to develop Thesis, Professional Practice, or continue studies through the Magister. As I mentioned in the previous post, there are the subjects at the level of species and ecosystem (SE), the subjects at the level of wood production (SP), the subjects at the social level (SS) and last but not mentioned above, the subjects of skills for competition (SC). The workload varies a lot depending on the area and the subject, being the areas of SE those that remove extra extracurricular hours, these are followed by the SS, due to the low knowledge that we develop, followed by the SP and finally the SC. Currently for more than 300 people studying this career, the faculty only presents its own building for classes, which consists of 3 normal rooms, 3 rooms with computers, 3 small rooms for study and soon to open a small auditorium . Those would correspond to the places where classes are taught, on the other hand, there are 3 departments where the work of each teacher is developed. At a technological level, the faculty does not present large amounts of technological equipment, but if they present a lot of variety, in general you can only see how they are used unless they are terrain. The teaching methods vary a lot, because there are different generations of teachers, and their way of teaching at the level of presentations, documents and time they give to them, makes the difference.
MY CLASS
Hello, my name is Renata Álvarez Candia, I am 23 years old and I study forestry at the Universidad
de Chile, Facultad de Ciencias forestales y conservación de la naturaleza. My personality, or the way
I show myself in a class, completely varies the course that is being taught. If it's a bouquet that I like
a lot, I like to write and do everything possible. If it is a class that does not attract much attention,
but the teacher considers me a good teacher, perhaps there is not a record, but an attempt at attention,
even if it deconcentrates me sometimes. If a class does not like me or questions the subject of how it
is taught, I do not pay much attention, but I do not try to be notorious in that. The main contents are
about the vegetation at the level of botany, succession, dynamics, life cycle. On the other hand, there
is the branch of production, where you can see the production processes, the products and the market,
and finally (on a large scale) the social, administrative and legal scope. I like it, because I wanted to
understand how everything worked, the cycles and the results in the environment.

I don't
have a job dreamed of this moment, I think that every area of my career has its
good sides and bad sides. Only it is not to my liking... how to work in a
laboratory or in an office with a schedule fixed the same day a week... I like
to move and see different things. I want to be able to see the nature often and
have time to learn more. As I mentioned I would much more prefer being
outdoors, but it is natural that at certain times one must work within a place. Therefore, we can also deduce that desire to
travel both for my own or my work is an idea that I love, if my job had these
opportunities, I think that it would be close to be my dream job. If we talk
about salary, I will be honest in that I like to have my stuff and have some to
other luxury, but I am not materialistic and I think I'd rather have a big
salary to help my family and to travel or take a walk when I want and not rely
on savings. As I mentioned in the previous blog I want to specialize in forest
characterization or in the process of Fire in the forests.
POSTGRADUATE
Hello,
today I will talk about a possible postgraduate course that I would like to
make. The reasons for this course are quite typical, such as increase my
curriculum, specialize in an area that I want to, and also for own
satisfaction. The subject for which I have seen possibilities to take a course
is on the subject of Botany and studies on different types of forests, thinking
about their dynamics and succession in time and their main characteristics to
be named like this. I think that, if I had to choose a place or the way to
study, it would be with a course abroad and thus give them a plus to the
previous reasons and also enjoy another place. Among the countries that I have
seen, the one that catches my attention is Canada, where there are 8 different
types of forests and which differ from the forest types present in Chile, being
a clear example of northern hemisphere vegetation. I like the idea of being
able to reach a place and being able to identify where I am or what latitude is
due to the plants present, to the climate it presents to the fauna present, all
these are indicators of the type of place, country or culture where you are...

My Favourite
Species is?
Knowing the
different trees and plants is an important issue in our career. During my years
here, I can say that although I already know many, there is not one that really
is my favorite. Even so, the first species that comes to mind when they ask me
this is Fitzoya cupressoides.
Fitzroya is
a monotypic genus in the cypress family. The single living species, Fitzroya
cupressoides, is a tall, long-lived conifer native to Chile and Argentina.
Common name is Alerce. The genus was named in honour of Robert FitzRoy. Alerce
is the largest species in South America. Normally growing to 40–60 m, but
occasionally more than 70 m, and up to 5 m in trunk diameter. Its rough
pyramidal canopy provides cover for the southern beech, laurel and myrtle.
The reason
why this species easily comes to my mind is because, normally it is a species
that is easy to recognize, thinking of its "silver" bark or its
pyramidal canopy, but for me it has always been difficult to identify it. It's
something that still surprises me, I've gone to the two national parks where
there is great density of these and despite that, I'm still questioning “Is it
or is it not Alerce?” When I'm watching it

SUMMER
Take a bus to Valdivia for exploring the region of Los
Lagos in January of 2017. I moved through the city and then down into the
different lakes until you return to climb and reach "Panguipulli"
where I found the best place in my vacation. Is a site that you have to get to by barge, the travel
during 2 or 3 hours and half the time you lose your phone signal. When you
arrive you can only see two houses, a restaurant and a box or something like
that. On the side there is a huge lake with the name of the place, which I do
not yet want to reveal. Inside this place there is a place that I love. It is a
small space with a stream that reaches the lake. Sun, clouds, Cold, Heat, all
in a just one place. It is a small paradise away from the world, where you have
no signal and can enjoy yourself or your company. I met him with my best
friend.

My First Semester
This first semester has not gone badly. I had a bad 2017, so
even the bad things of this year I try to see them better. Something good that
happened to me was to be able to enjoy my last practice with my generation
colleagues, even though at that moment I still had repercussions from the
previous year, I could feel very good again with my group of friends, the ones
I have since I entered the race.
Another good thing is the great relationship I have built
with the mother of my best friend, we never had a bad relationship, but there
was discomfort. One difficult moment made us contain the other, she more to me,
than I to her. Even so, now that I think about it, that's the best I've
achieved in this semester, she's really important to me. Her family, is my
second family. I think another achievement has been getting out of my worries.
Something bad, I think the only thing I remember and is
because it happened yesterday, was a problem with a teacher, she makes a
asignature that a topic that I do not like, so I just want to approve it. When
I saw my test I noticed that I had reviewed it badly, and I still do not want
to correct it
I dont have something special to mention
I'll finish with my favorite phrase: Too early

Semester
This time i will talk about my semester. A semester is a period that varies depending on the interest of the classes that contain, that is my own definition. But today is different, I am interested in 90% of them and yet has been complicated at higher levels. I have 6 subject this semester: "English", "Ecosystems Assessment" with Professor Horacio Bown (academician with great vocation), "Silviculture and Forest Management", "Raw Materials and Industrial Supply", "Elective Forest Management Zone Arid", "Technical Writing", and my favorite is "territorial ordering", in which we plan the distribution and use of the resources in the study area. It has a theoretical part as a practice where we use the GIS system, for the creation of maps. After, I continue with an analysis regarding the decisions and importance we give to the present variables. It is difficult to interpret, but not perform. It was mainly use of resources, sectors for preservation and production, also discussed legal issues that go hand in hand for handling sectors.
I hope that efforts bring fruit, because the fatigue that I have accumulated is extraordinary.

WEB OR EXPERT?
I take the second option. In the career, the main topic that interests me, is the dynamics of ecosystems. Within this line, there are several sides that focus; which I like most to me is: fire ecology. There are some experts on the subject, but my favourite is my professor of fire, Miguel Castillo. He is Forester, by Universidad de Chile (1998), Diplomate in Mathematical Cartography, by UTEM (2002), Mgter in Geography, by Universidad de Chile (2006), Doctor in Natural Resource and Sustainability, by Universidad de Cordoba-España (2013).
He currently works in the laboratory of forest fires, Universidad de Chile. Handled in the processes of anthropogenic arising from the action of the fire in landscapes, the territorial analysis of dynamic processes in the change of the territory and its environmental, economic and social implications. He handles the anthropogenic proceses arising from the action of the fire in landscapes, the territorial analysis of dynamic processes in the change of the territory and its environmental, economic and social implications. He also works within the scope of the disaster prevention and in the definition of strategies of territorial protection based on the application of tools GIS and others associated with the camp of the geomantic. Castillo is one of the maintainers of the project of CONAF (2016-2018 period) as research manager for the creation of patterns of ground for the restoration of sclerophyll formations affected by forest fires.
DANCING BOY
My favorite film is Billy Elliot, a British story developed in northeastern England, directed by Stephen Daldry and starring Jamie Bell. In this shows the story of a boy who knows the ballet and wants to become a dancer, while exposes the social problems of the period
In 1984, Billy Elliot, an 11-year-old, is sends by his father Jackie to the gym to learn boxing, but Billy dislikes the sport. One day, a ballet class begins in the gym, Billy whitout telling joins the ballet class. When Jackie discovers this, he forbids Billy to take any more ballet. But, passionate about dancing, Billy secretly continues lessons with the help of his dance teacher, Sandra Wilkinson. She believes Billy is talented enough to study at the Royal Ballet School in London, His family are outraged at the prospect of him becoming a professional ballet dancer.
After this, I discovered Billy Elliot: The Musical, is about 10 years on stage and even has been recorded on DVD. This is starred by Elliott Hanna, and is my favorite. The music was composed by Elton John and is without doubt for me a work full of life, ordinary life. This Musical teaches something very important "EXPRESSING YOURSELF" y "LOVE YOURSELF"

I love the photos, not precisely take me photos, is more a joy taking photos or see photos revealed. I like those photos that have something different, not only people smiling, something that really save anything important in them. I like them because you can see you before, in a way that you can't always see you.
My favorite photo is the next:
I feel good when I see this photo... it could be because i don't remember who taken the photo, just know that it had to of my guides of camp when I was a scout. The photo shows something special, Show up me and my best friend by washing clothes in the river. The much fun is that at that time we were not best friends, but in this camp we joined. It is special to see now older, inside an old CD, a photograph of us, almost as if It predicted something.
I
like because it goes beyond a made pose, it is rather a unprecedented moment, I
no one would remember, but which at the time was great, causing a 10 years of friendship that last as always and
forever (I hope)

Today I want to tell you about my favorite
place in the world. You must know the difficult that are select just one place,
because in general depend the time or the station. But, I have a place I do
like to come back to someday. Is a site that you have to get to by barge, the

My Phone
Even though
I think that the technology is not essential in life, the fact that the
Internet can help me to connect with others makes me not to consider it a bad
thing. Can that my favorite technology is the phone, because I love to be able
to see the time at all times (You could say: Why don't you use clock?) Yes, is
true. But you can take a photo in any place or put us in accordance with
someone to we meet up... that certainly is what I like.
My phone in particular
does not measure more than 15 cm high, and it is not heavy. I bought it when I
entered the University, and I only did it, because this is very far from my
house. If it had it, things could be worse, or maybe better. So only while you
leave.

FORESTRY
I always believed that I would end up in the health field
when I was an adult, but over time I began to realize that before worrying
about people, I got more attention on how to care for the world. It's just that
it's so beautiful, I do not even understand how it's not normal to be at your
disposal. That is why, in high school, I started to search careers that allowed
me to be in contact with the earth during my days ... I discovered that some
friends of my mother, are foresters. So is how I met the career I chose this,
for the sole reason to understand how everything worked. I am a five year and I
do not regret my decision.
This is it.

I
was born in Santiago on 7 October, 1995. I have two brothers, one younger and one older, and my mom. Is a little family, but crazy.
I am extroverted, but I don`t speak much. I
have a megaphone voice and an explosive laugh. I like cooking and dancing. I studied in the same
school my whole life "Elvira Hurtado de Matte". Actually, I
currently my five year in my carrer. Is funny, but I found
what I like in this place. Great people, similar to me, and real friends and
the most important a road to follow. I started to study forestry, to understand
how things work, cycles, as everything moves in any direction by a why...

Taktsang Monastery in Bhutan
I saw this imagen before; I
really want travel to this place. The reason is simple, I like the Asia culture.
This temple is an ancient monastery by Buddhist Philosophy. Its architecture is
so traditional at the oriental level, but not is the more great. For me is the mystical
travel for this walk.
Prayer flags sway in the wind near Taktsang Monastery in Bhutan. (National Geographic)
